If you look at the integration story of any incumbent static analyzer, the shape is identical. You install a binary, point it at a build directory, it produces a SARIF file or an HTML report, and a human reads it. Some of them grew IDE plugins. A few have a REST API. All of them assume the consumer is a person.
That contract worked for twenty years. It does not work anymore.
The new consumer is the model
When Claude Code or Cursor edits a file, the workflow looks like this: read the relevant context, generate a diff, apply it, run tests if any, commit. The model is in the loop. The human is downstream, reading the PR. By the time a CI job runs Coverity over the merge, the LLM has already moved to the next ticket and nobody is going to come back and rewrite the function.
The analyzer needs to slot into the model’s loop, not the human’s. That means three things:
- Synchronous, sub-second response on a single file or diff. No batch jobs.
- Structured output that the model can parse without natural language hints. JSON, with the same fields every time.
- Self-describing so the model can ask “what tools do you have” and pick the right one without a human writing prompt instructions.
MCP solves all three
The Model Context Protocol is the first time these three constraints have a common implementation. A HyperAnalyzer MCP server registers a handful of tools (analyze_file, analyze_snippet, analyze_diff, list_rules, explain_finding), the client discovers them automatically, and from then on the model can call them mid-edit the same way it calls read_file or bash.
The interesting consequence is what disappears. There is no plugin to write per editor. There is no integration story per IDE. There is no “Cursor support” or “Claude Code support” as separate workstreams. You write one MCP server and every MCP-aware client gets it for free. The same server runs under Claude Desktop, Continue.dev and Windsurf with zero changes.
That is the API the analyzer industry has been missing for a decade and did not realise it was missing until LLMs needed it.
